I am Max the leather tanner. I am a leatherwork artisan and have been based in the Pisa city centre for more than thirty years.
The skill and the quality of my handcraft are the same as the old Tuscany's tradition of leather tanning and working.
My shop is located in the Santa Maria borough, renowned for its centennial tradition in leather tanning and manufacturing.
Since 1200, the most important leather tanner Guilds were located here. They used a whip to tan skins previously dipped in the waters of the river Arno. This was made out of the branches off a green plant rich in tannin, called "Mordella". All my products are made 100% of the highest quality leather, inside and out.

I only use calf skin leather, especially the type commonly called "vegetable tanned leather" that can be greased as much or as little as required.
